cPanel Full Backup Transfer via FTP

BACK TO HOMEPAGE

The following explains the method of transfer which is recommended after a cPanel Self Transfer has been attempted and failed.

The reason this method is recommended as a secondary option is due to the delay time between site backup and restore on the new server. While a website is being transfered, database updates, and email delivery may take place on the old server it is in the clients best interest to transfer their account and update the nameserver addresses on their domain as soon as possible.

First log into your cPanel account on your current server with the old hosting company.

1. Go to Control Panel
2. Click on Back up

cpanel backup icon
3. Click on "Generate Full Backup"

cpanel - generate full backup
4. Choose "Remote FTP Transfer" [Note: mispelled as Remove FTP Server (Passive mode transfer)]

cpanel - remote FTP server (passive mode transfer)
5. Remote FTP Server: Type the IP address of your New Hosting Server Here

6. Remote FTP Server User: Type the username of New Host Account

cpanel remote transfer backup username
7. Remote FTP Password: Type the Password of New Host Account.
8. Click on "Generate Backup" button

After you have done this, the remote server should create a full backup of your hosting account and upload it to the new cPanel server. At this point visit the HostDime Support Helpdesk at https://desk.hostdime.com/ and open a support request with the Sales Division requesting a restore of the newly uploaded backup.

Make sure to include your old account details, including the IP address, username, and password for your account on the old hosting company cPanel server. Our staff may need this to properly restore the account if there was a problem or failure in the FTP transfer.

Once your account has been restored, our staff members will reply to your support request letting you know how to proceed to finish the transfer, such as changing the nameserver addresses on your domain to point to the new hosting account nameserver addresses.

Before you update the nameserver addresses on your domain to resolve to the new server, you may wish to use the instructions in Advanced Website Testing via the HOSTS File to make sure your website is implemented and functioning properly on the new server.
