Setting up Frontpage to Publish via FTPUnfortunately Frontpage will not connect to a website using the Frontpage Extensions unless the domain name of that website is working properly. If you have just signed up for a web hosting account with HostDime, and just updated the nameserver addresses on your domain, you may have to wait 4 to 48 hours before the DNS records for your domain have propagated. Thus you will need to use FTP to publish your website first. This article was created using Frontpage version 4.0.2.2717. If you find that these instructions do not apply to your version of Frontpage significantly please let us know the version you are using.NOTE: We do not support the use of the Frontpage software, nor do we support the design/coding of the websites for our clients. HostDime will only assist you with issues regarding the proper functionality in your connection to the server, and your ability to upload files to the server. If your issue is determined to be a problem with your operating system and/or software, you may be refered to Microsoft or the OEM of your computer for support.Creating a WebTo publish a website in Frontpage via FTP you will first need to have a "web" created which contains all your website files for a single website you've created. In Frontpage, you can create what is known as a "Web" to contain your website's HTML and image files. To do this, first select the File menu from the top of Frontpage, and select New > Web.
A window will appear with many template options for the website you are about to create. After you have done this, rename the folder which the new web will be stored in to reflect a name or the domain name for your site. For example, we have entered 'johndoe.com' as the name of the folder which will be created in our "My Webs" folder on the D:\ drive.
After pressing OK, the new web will be created and you will see the a listing of the files. Go ahead and build your website from within this folder. Publishing Web Via FTPAfter you have an established website created within a Frontpage Web, you are ready to publish the website. In the future, if you wish to update your website simply make the changes to the Web which is located locally on your computer, and then choose to publish using these instructions again. First select the File menu, and then click on "Publish Web...".
A window such as the following will appear. Remove the 'http://' and replace it with 'ftp://', followed by your domain name or the IP address of your server, and then follow the domain name or IP address with '/public_html'. NOTE: Frontpage doesn't know that your FTP account has a folder named "public_html" that it needs to place the website files into. If you do not do this, Frontpage may delete the important folders and files within the main directory of your FTP account causing you to possibly lose email and other important configuration files.
Next a window asking for the username and password will appear. Enter your FTP username and password. Your FTP username and password is the same as your cPanel username and password.
After clicking OK you should start to see a window such as this indicating that the files are transfering.
If you happen to see a window which indicates that there are files which you do not have included in your local web directory, select No each time. These files are important and should cause no problems if left on the remote server.
Once the transfer is completed, you will see the following window:
